This webinar will cover why it’s important to increase the diversity of participants in cancer clinical trials, barriers and facilitators to participation in clinical trials by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and strategies to improve opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to participate in clinical trials. It is aimed at increasing knowledge of health professionals working in cancer clinical trials about strategies that may increase access of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to clinical trials.

Professor Joan Cunningham
Senior Principal Research Fellow, Menzies School of Health Research
Professor Joan Cunningham has extensive research experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, including collaborations with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers, policy-makers, service providers, consumers and organisations. Joan was heavily involved in the creation of the video that will be played during the webinar.
Ms Louise Lyons
Senior Manager, Strategy and Policy - Indigenous Genomics, The Kids Research Institute Australia
Ms Louise Lyons is a proud Jaadwa woman from Western Victoria, and is Senior Manager, Strategy and Policy - Indigenous Genomics, The Kids Research Institute Australia. Louise has held numerous senior roles in the research and healthcare sectors, including as the Director of Public Health and Research at VACCHO for nearly 6 years where she developed health programs and research projects in partnership with Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and Communities. Louise has been a member of numerous state and Federal government working and advisory committees for Aboriginal health policy and programs planning.
Shannon Drake
Steering Committee Co-Chair for Lotjpa Yapaneyepuk
Shannon Drake, a proud Wamba/Wamba and Jaara woman, leads Public Health and Wellbeing Outcomes at Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative, in Mooroopna, on Yorta Yorta country. As Steering Committee Co-Chair for Lotjpa Yapaneyepuk, Shannon plays a significant role in guiding the study design, governance, and management practices to empower and uphold Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander principles.
Dr Javier Torres
Oncologist, Goulburn Valley Health
Dr Javier Torres in an oncologist at Goulburn Valley Health, Shepparton and the co-lead of Lotjpa Yapneyepuk. Javier’s professional interest includes clinical trials and he keeps close contact with major metropolitan oncology services to improve access to clinical trials and new treatments for Shepparton patients. In addition to his clinical work, Javier enjoys teaching and holds a position as Senior Lecturer with the Department of Rural Health, University of Melbourne.
